Beware gurus who make too much sense.

To paraphrase the well-known saying*, the more you understand, the more you understand what you don't understand. Hence, if something immediately makes a lot of sense, that effect is likely achieved by industrious omission — like an elegant theory that has diligently searched for facts to ignore, found them and thrown them out. Real knowledge is usually a mess, and real understanding always carries doubt with it.

* «the more I know, the more I know what I don't know / that I know nothing» has been variously attributed to Socrates, Aristotle, Voltaire and Einstein, and each time I look at it, I have less idea where it actually came from. Ha.
